Since the very start of GCBB in March 2019, there have been an array of events held across the community. From small scale litter picks, to our large and far reaching School Eco Information Swaps and even the Borough’s first ever environmental hustings.
Passionate and active members have come together to support each other and the wider community in making changes big and small to help make Bromley and beyond, greener and cleaner!
GCBB members have put on activities to share their own skills such as make do and mend, furashiki (cloth gift wrapping), crochet and upcycle crafting for children. These have been offered for free and have been well attended.
Other members have organised events where expert speakers have shared their knowledge. These have included talks from the WWF on Climate Change, from Bromley Council’s waste management team on Recycling in the Borough, and from GCBB experts on reducing food waste and composting.
Not forgetting the two school eco information swap events where local schools and have shared their experiences of making their own positive environmental changes.
In addition to these knowledge sharing events, members have organised activities including 5 sewathons, where items such as reusable fruit and veg bags have been sewn using donated, clean netting fabric to share amongst members and reduce plastic waste.
There have also been clothes swap events organised to help promote and provide access to excellent condition pre-loved clothes to raise awareness and reduce the impacts of fast fashion.
Alongside these specific organised events, the group has held regular catch ups, to discuss our passions and agree a programme of action. For the first 12 months these were typically held upstairs at the Shortlands Tavern.
The Covid world has meant that these now take place via Zoom, allowing the group to maintain momentum with activities moving forward in new way.
