About the role

We are looking for friendly local people who are interested in supporting the climate crisis to volunteer at the Green Hub in the Glades from end Feb onwards when it launches.

At any one time there will be 2 volunteers at the Hub, so you will be supported and will soon be working with a network of people who share a passion for all things green.

Whatever experiences/tips you have and are willing to share will be a valuable inspiration to others (e.g. of reducing waste, solar panels, energy efficiency, cycle routes, making gardens more wildlife-friendly and/or kitchen-friendly and more). You are not required to be 100% sustainable and carbon neutral: very much not. This is about encouragement and experimentation: about trying and learning. We want to make people feel that whatever they can do helps. We are all learning together and far less intimidating that way. It’s a judgement free zone for all.  So it’s completely fine if you’re at the start of your own journey.

Much of volunteers’ time at the hub will be spent chatting and pointing people in the right direction to get more information/support etc, helping make sure our events and workshops run smoothly, and there will be a chance to get involved in or lead other local projects.

No past experience or in-depth knowledge of sustainable living or community support is required. Carbon Literacy training and other job training will be provided to all volunteers and there will be a host of other information you will have access to, with more info on the most common questions/concerns and materials that we and other sustainability groups, air quality groups and biodiversity groups have created.

A regular weekly 3-4 hour commitment would make a huge difference to our Community Hub project and the cultural and practical changes we are trying to help facilitate across the borough. And if this pilot is a success, across the rest of the UK.

Of course cover will be arranged for holidays or sickness, much like volunteering in a charity shop, animal sanctuary or church group etc.

If you are interested in this volunteer role please, send an email with the following information to

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact number
  • A paragraph of information of why you are interested in the role
  • The hours you would be willing to volunteer within the hub opening hours of 10am-6pm Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday and 11am-5pm on Sunday
