During October 2023 Greener and Cleaner were chosen to receive a share of £500,000 as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards, which is giving over £1million to good causes this year.
Greener and Cleaner Founder, Parisa Wright, was excited to receive the award explaining: “There is a myth that living more sustainably is expensive and inaccessible. We are passionate about busting those myths. We are helping people of all backgrounds connect with the significant cost of living and health benefits of sustainability. We’re supporting those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change to safeguard their families. This funding will support an increase in work supporting marginalised groups with advice, skills workshops, and a safe space for discussion”.
Making a real difference
The Movement for Good awards are designed to help charities make a real difference in their communities. More than 900 charities applied for the awards. Available funding is being put towards advancing education and skills, rural and community development, heritage, arts and culture, and climate change and environment. Winning projects, like Greener and Cleaner, were selected against four criteria: impact and effectiveness, sustainability, innovation, and care and compassion.
Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, said: “We understand the importance of longer-term funding for charities, especially when trying to bring ambitious new ideas to life and get larger transformative projects off the ground. Through our large grants, we are actively championing innovation, giving charities the backing they need to propel their plans forward and turn creative ideas into practical solutions that benefit society. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do and all of our available profits go to good causes.”
The Movement for Good Awards large grants provide charities with flexible funding that can be used within three years and for a blend of capital and running costs for their projects. Impassioned, Parisa continued: “This funding will support the important and long-term work of our charity, and its Community Hub, in empowering more vulnerable and marginalised groups.
We need everyone working together. Many people feel confused, overwhelmed or excluded by the conversation. Together we can all start to take those steps, inspiring, requesting and actually creating the changes we want, and need, to see.”
