We shared our experiences on widening community engagement for Community Energy Day.
Community Energy Day focuses on celebrating and advancing community-owned sustainability efforts. This year’s theme was ‘local power in action’.
Greener and Cleaner was asked to share some of our experiences around inclusive peer-to-peer community engagement at the event – both at our Community Hub in Bromley and in the wider communities of south east London over the past few years.
In our workshop we discussed the many different routes, activities and interest areas that have brought people to engage with us, as well as the topic of home energy or community energy.
Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, also joined the discussion. He shared some thoughts on how growing more community-owned renewables can help reshape societal power and wealth dynamics.
We also talked about reducing the climate change impacts of our energy use and providing more resilience from international unrest and fuel price hikes.
